The Latics did it again! They travelled to 4th. place Swindon and came away with three points. Paul Murray got the ball rolling when he shot from the edge of the box to give the visitors a dream start in the eigth minute. Swindon tried to get back in the game and dominated a lot of the first half play without getting any reward, mainly thanks to another good display by Pogs (pictured). The home fans booed off their team at half time.

Jermaine Johnson almost doubled the score with a terrific 40 yard shot in the 68th. minute which Evans saved but seven minutes later JJ latched onto a Darren Sheridan pass to finish the job and make it 0-2. Swindon got a consolation goal through Fallon but the Latics held on for a memorable win, and one which might just be enough to stave off any remaining threat of relegation.

After the game, Brian Talbot said, “I've got to say it was a result which a lot of people didn't expect today. We were confident and we felt we could come here and get something. I don't think that anyone was 100% sure that we could get a win but we needed the 3 points. We tried to take the game to them. Obviously second half they took chances, they threw people forward and they had a lot of aerial bombardment into our area but we dealt with it."

"The lads worked hard and we got two very good goals to win the game. They worked to a man tremendously and I couldn't ask for any more commitment from them. I thought the back four were first class. Will Haining did well to carry on as he had a sore hamstring. They worked very hard in midfield and we created maybe three or four very good chances. We took two of them with superb goals and maybe could have had a couple more. They were frightened of JJ's pace all afternoon and it's a reward for their hard work really, the three points.”
