The Latics continued their pre season warm up with a friendly at local neighbours Rochdale. The travelling army of 1000 plus fans gave the team a standing ovation at the end of the match.

Rochdale got the first chance when Connor shot over the bar but then triallist midfielder Ernie Cooksey, who had an impressive game, headed wide from a Boshell corner. There were chances at both ends but both teams left the field at half time scoreless.

Scott Vernon (pictured) put the Latics ahead 12 minutes into the second half and several chances came to increase the lead but it was Rochdale who scored next when McEvilly got the equaliser with five minutes to go. Athletic could have won it in the dying seconds but Darren Sheridan’s freekick come back off the crossbar.
