Athletic's first pre-season match ended in defeat at Portadown but it was a good work out for the team as each player on the trip played a full 45 minutes with the second half featuring an entirely different team. Chances were rare and the best chances fell to Tony Carss and Will Haining. Carss (pictured) forced a save and Haining headed over a cross by Armstrong. The winner for Portadown came from Vinnie Arkins with 9 remaining. On Wednesday evening Athletic visit Lisburn Distillery in another warm up match.
