The Latics put in another resounding performance to give potential investors something positive in front of a 6,000 plus gate at Boundary Park. Zola had missed a couple of chances before John Sheridan got them off the mark with a penalty after half an hour after John Eyre had been pulled back in the box. Calvin Zola (pictured) put the Latics two up just on the stroke of half time when he headed home a Dean Holden cross.

The second half was only two minutes old before Athletic made it 3-0. It came after a corner was cleared off the line but Paul Murray chipped the ball back in for Holden to power the ball home and make the game safe. The Latics were impressive and many created more chances as the half wound to an end. Luton goalkeeper Beckwith was sent off for handling outside the box as Scott Vernon was ready to pounce but the resulting free-kick from David Eyres was hit over the bar. Luton rarely troubled a confident Athletic defence.

The Latics have now gone six games undefeated and Iain Dowie is making sure that the team do their bit to make the club a viable prospect. Tuesday is another ‘D-Day” for Athletic so it’s fingers crossed and let’s hope we get out of this current financial mess. The club is too good to fold.
