The Latics dithered again as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Brentford. John Sheridan began the game in an attempt to spice up the team but it didn’t work. Brother Darren Sheridan also started the game but was that a wise decision as he hadn’t played any reserve games in the build up? It proved to be a bad decision as Darren went off injured in the 10th. minute and it was during this spell with 10 men that Brentford took the lead through May after a corner from the right. Jermaine Johnson lobbed an effort over the bar after 15 minutes and a few minutes later Danny Boshell and John Sheridan both shot wide. More efforts followed at both ends but Brentford went in with a half-time lead.

In the second half the Latics started to look better going forward and a few chances went begging before Scott Vernon (pictured) put them level in the 54th. minute. John Eyre crossed from the right and Vernon stooped to head in at the near post.

In the 73rd. minute Kitamirike was sent off after pulling back Johnson. The referee decided that he would issue a second yellow although a straight red would have been in order for a professional foul. Either way Brentford were down to 10 men. Try as they may, the Latics had several chances to win the game but Brentford hung on for a point.
