Wycombe's brave ploy of using three out and out strikers paid off again with their second win in a week.
After hammering QPR 4-1, they produced a fine display to punish an Oldham side who were badly out of sorts.
Andy Rammell, Craig Faulconbridge and Sean Devine were always a handful, while Wycombe kept their first clean sheet in ten attempts.
By contrast, Oldham hadn't conceded since the opening day. Yet they rarely looked capable of avoiding defeat this time.
Wanderer's Manager Lawrie Sanchez said "I wanted to see if three strikers would work away from home and we caused them a lot of problems.
"I was also confident about our midfield because, with the greatest respect to Oldham, I fancied us to dominate them.
"One of the most pleasing things is to get an away win because we only managed four last season.
"It means you have to show exceptional home form so it's important we build on this and keep giving ourselves breathing space."
Oldham boss Iain Dowie added: "Considering the progress we have made, that was bitterly disappointing.
"We didn't pass the ball properly or take our chances but this is only one setback so I won't make a big deal of it."
Wycombe went ahead after just five minutes through midfielder Dannie Bulman, who intercepted a clearance 30 yards out.
He reached the edge of the box and his low shot escaped the clutches of Oldham keeper Les Pogliacomi.
Pogliacomi's opposite number, Frank Talia, made a brilliant save from Oldham striker Chris Killen, while Bulman fired narrowly over from a tight angle.
Oldham had plenty of possession but found it impossible to break down a determined backline.
Wycombe substitute Richard Harris had just headed against his own bar when he struck the killer goal, a 16-yard drive off the underside of the bar.
Oldham hit the woodwork again through Wayne Andrews but Wycome deserved their points
