Cheltenham took a surprise point at Boundary Park to extend their recent improvement in form.
The Robins remain in trouble at the foot of Division Two, but there were reasons to be cheerful at Oldham, where you would never have known that it was a clash between second from top and second from bottom.
Manager Graham Allner said: "We fully deserved the draw because we defended very well, did well in midfield, and had the best of the chances.
"The belief amOng the lads is increasing with every game and we just need one or two breaks to turn results like this into victories.
"I am pleased that we had three or four good chances because you don't expect that to happen when you come to a place like this.
"It's just that extra bit of confidence that is lacking but we are definitely getting there." Despite one of Oldham's worst performances of the season, boss Iain Dowie insisted: "Everybody has their off days, just look at Arsenal and Liverpool.
"The fact is that we are unbeaten in six and that will do for me. We also kept another clean sheet and have one of the best defensive records in the country." Cheltenham's first opening came on 12 minutes when striker Paul Brayson cut in from the right and tested big Australian keeper Les Pogliacomi with a low shot.
Julian Alsop was winning everything in the air, but Oldham just managed to clear his'flick-ons before support arrived.
Jamie Victory volleyed over for the visitors before, after 65 minutes, substitute Damian Spencer went closest to a breakthrough by heading against the crossbar from eight yards.
Oldham sent on top scorer Clyde Wijnhard, who has been out due to knee surgery, and the Dutchman soon blasted wide from distance.
Chris Armstrong had a goal disallowed for offside, but Cheltenham could have snatched it in stoppage time when Pogliacomi saved well from Martin Devaney
