Latics boss Dave Penney found the exercise useful and exclaimed that it was another good work-out. He said: "Obviously, I would like to score a few more goals, keep a few more clean sheets and we need to get more consistency in our play. But we are getting there and we still have games against Sunderland and Blackpool to come. We are doing the right thing and the Macclesfield game was played at a decent standard although we might have been a little too direct at times. But we will get sharper and our passing will get better. The lads continue to work hard and that's the way it has to be. Everyone is very positive."
Macclesfield 1 Oldham Athletic 2
Athletic got back on the winning trail in their pre-season build up at Macclesfield on Tuesday night. Chris Taylor put the Latics into the lead after 15 minutes and that's how it stayed up till the break although the visitors had enough chances to be three or four goals ahead. In the second half both Abbott and Taylor went close early on but it was the Moss Rose side who scored next when Ross Draper popped on in from close range. The goal came after Daniels had tested Dean Brill who saved his shot but Draper was on hand to slot home the rebound for the equaliser. With time running out, Chris O'Grady laid the ball on for Taylor to fire home the winner with just seconds remaining.
