Brentford took the three points from cash-strapped Oldham Athletic at Griffin Park thanks to Tony Rougier's second-half winner, securing their first three points of the season.
Both sides fielded new signings, with the Bees having brought in Millwall striker Ben May on loan and Oldham having done likewise with Fulham defender Mark Hudson.
It was the Latics who struck first after 17 minutes as Dean Holden rose to head home Will Haining's long throw.
The home side struck back three minutes before the interval as Eddie Hutchinson powered home a header of his own from Michael Dobson's accurate corner.
After the restart the visitors began strongly, with David Eyres and John Eyre both seeing efforts come back off the frame of the goal.
However, just before the hour the Bees made the all-important breakthrough as Rougier netted his first goal since joining the club in the summer.
Seven minutes later the Latics should have drawn level, after Ibrahima Sonko had fouled Eyre in the penalty area, but Eyres saw his spot-kick saved by Paul Smith.
The defeat leaves Oldham with just a single point from their first four games of the season, while the Bees have moved away from the foot of the table.
