A last-gasp equaliser from leading scorer Bruce Dyer gave Barnsley a deserved point against high flying Oldham.
The club's future was secured at the 11th hour this week as Barnsley mayor - wealthy local businessman Peter Doyle - took control of the club which was threatened with closure.
And on the pitch the side celebrated with an impressive display.
Oldham - undefeated away this season went in front after 27 minutes following a disputed free-kick.
Midfielder David Beharall curled in the impressive cross and Julien Baudet beat the home defence to head by keeper Andy Marriott, but Oldham's advantage lasted just a minute before Barnsley levelled.
Striker Mike Sheron collected a neat pass from David Mulligan and lashed an unstoppable 20-yard left-footer to score his third goal in two games.
It gave the home side confidence and they should have gone in front after 36 minutes when Dyer and Sheron linked superbly, but Gary Jones fired his shot wide from 15 yards.
Alex Neil might have scored for Barnsley, but for a desperate last-ditch challenge from Clint Hill who blocked his goalbound effort.
But just before half time Barnsley were saved by the upright when Wayne Andrews met Darren Sheridan's corner, but the ball hit the post and then bounced out off keeper Marriott. And seconds later Chris Armstrong's volley forced a tremendous save from Marriott.
Oldham went in front after an even second half. Substitute Chris Killen, a 21-year-old New Zealander signed from Manchester City in the summer, headed in Armstrong's cross to beat Marriott.
Oldham thought the three points were theirs, but two minutes from the end Jones won the ball and fed Dyer, who turned superbly before rifling in his shot to equalise
