Andy Liddell got the ball rolling when he notched the first Athletic goal ten minutes into the half after some good work from Craig Davies. Minutes later ace marksman Davies raced away through the Stanley defence and shrugged off the defenders to squeeze an angled shot home to put the Latics level.
Athletic were now taking the bull by the horns and efforts from Chris Taylor, Davies and Neal Trotman could all have put the visitors ahead. The Latics pressure finally paid off when a Taylor shot was deflected to Matty Wolfenden, who turned from a prone position to scoop the ball wide of the home keeper for the match winner.
After the game Davies (pictured) spoke of the character shown after the fight back. he said, "It was a difficult start. We started very slowly as we have done in the last couple of games. It's hard going in at half time two goals down, but sometimes it's easier in the second half as the other team think they're comfortable at two-nil. But we came out fighting in the second half and got a good result. I couldn't believe it when we went two-nil down, but at the end of the day it wasn't one or two players, it was the whole team. I think we showed good character to win 3-2. Things haven't been going our way recently but some good positives have come out of some of the games. Now we need to take this into the next game at home to Southend."
Speaking about his goal, Davies went on, "I was just chasing the ball down and thinking to myself that the goalkeeper and the centre-half were going to collide. I knew I had to avoid them and gamble, and I did that and there was an open goal. All I had to do was slot it in. We now need to go into the Southend game really positive and really try to crack on. I wasn't here last season but I'm aware we didn't win for the first four or five games. We've got three points on the board, of course we would like to have had more but we've got to try and build on what we've got and that starts against Southend next week."
