Four Players Sign on Deadline Day
Last updated : 25 March 2004 By Maca
First up was the signing of goalkeeper
Steve Corry, Steve played in yesterday’s reserve team victory against Shrewsbury Town and he did enough to earn non-contract terms until the end of the season to give Pogliacomi and Westwood.
Next up was the signing of recently released Cardiff City midfielder Mark Bonner. He joins until the end of the season. He made 20 appearances for Cardiff this season.
Gareth Owen then was given an extra and final month on loan from Stoke City. Gareth has played every game since he arrived on loan and will be looking to impress further.
Striker Dean Crowe was the next player to sign up on non-contract terms until the end of the season, local lad from Stockport will want to impress following a disappointing time at Luton Town.
Just minutes before the deadline was due to pass Oldham were able to sign Jermaine Johnson from Bolton Wanderers. Jermaine who was on loan earlier in the season made a massive impact when he arrived and sparked some good form that Oldham have struggled to replicate in his absence. It looked unlikely earlier in the day as Bolton rejected the clubs offer to take over his contract because Bolton had injury problems but hard work and a change of heart saw Oldham land their man.
Brian Talbot then looked to have signed Marcus Bignot from his old club Rushden & Diamonds. The versatile defender/midfielder had agreed a 2 year contract but as he arrived at the club to do a medical prior to signing he decided to reject the offer and talk to his former club QPR instead.
Oldham offered to loan Lee Croft from Manchester City but this was rejected because of an injury crisis at Eastlands.
Other target Paul Underwood first looked like he was on his way to Peterborough United but now he has signed for Luton Town. Rodney Jack will be staying at Rushden & Diamonds for the time being.
Youngster Steven Schumacher, on loan from Everton had his loan contract cancelled and he was supposed to move permanently to Bury but the deal has fallen through and Schumacher has returned back to Oldham again as Everton were unwilling to pay up Steven’s contract.
