Zola to miss three games

Striker Calvin Zola (pictured) was sent off in the reserves match against Rochdale at Rossendale on Wednesday and will miss three games. The sad part was that he was red carded for violent conduct in injury time which will mean that he misses the Luton (A), Peterborough (H) and Stockport (A) games. In addition new player Wes Wilkinson limped off with a knee injury in the same game. With Chris Killen out until late April through a hamstring injury it leaves Athletic desperately short of strikers.

New manager Brian Talbot is scurrying to strengthen the squad for the closing stages of the season. He is looking for a striker and a wide player and has already made approaches for three players. He returned to his former club Rushden and Diamonds and has made enquiries about their captain Paul Underwood and forward Rodney Jack. Underwood was Talbot’s first signing for R & D and he was voted the club ‘Player of the Season’ last year. Rodney Jack is no stranger to Athletic after having a successful 5 years at Crewe Alexandra before moving to Nene Park. Jack can play in the centre or on either flank and he has netted 12 times this season. Talbot’s bid for a Premiership striker fell through when his club considered him nearly being ready for a return to their first team.
