The Latics’ boss Richie Wellens explained his frustration of the transfer window deadline which stopped him from bringing in some new players. With Eoin Doyle and Wilfried Moimbe confirmed Wellens told of the players that he failed to get.
He commented, “I agreed a deal with Matt Mills. He decided to go to Barnsley because we couldn’t give him an extra year. We bid early in the morning for Devante Cole, obviously Wigan have got more power, they came in late in the day because Fleetwood just let everybody know that we’d bid for him. Those are the two that I wanted in then there was a chance of another lad, Joe Marson at Wolves, but that wasn’t going to happen.”
Wellens also pointed out that four of the five players they had brought in during the takeover would be told that they wouldn’t be retained.
