Latics' boss Richie Wellens is still confident that his team will escape relegation after the 0-0 draw at Rochdale on Tuesday which left them still above their neighbours who are fourth from bottom. The Latics have a chance to climb above Wimbledon with a win there on Saturday which will put pressure on the teams below them.
Wellens said, “We’ve got this game away at Wimbledon which is a huge game then we’ve got two home games. When I spoke after the Wigan match I said ‘this game isn’t going to decide where we’re going to be this season,’ the Wimbledon away match and the two home games will define where we’re going to be next season. For my mindset it’s easy because we know what we’ve got to do but what I don’t want is people worrying about it. The games are few and far between now and every game goes past it’s another week by and another game ticked off. We just want to go out and win the next one, you can think that we’ve got four games left and ask how many points we need from these four, forget about it because you can’t control the next three, just think about the next one and try and get three points.”
“If we get three points at Wimbledon it will put us in a better position. Nothing comes easy, lets go there with a real positive mindset and a belief that we’re going to win the game. I’m going to get some pace into the team, away from home I want some counter attacking speed and hopefully we’ll create a lot of chances.”
