The Latics are hoping to have a new goalkeeper and a midfielder in place before the big kick-off against Oxford United on Saturday. The keeper in question is Sunderland's Max Stryjek who is a highly rated Poland under-21 international. Experienced Preston midfield man John Welsh is also being sought on a season-long loan.
Simon Grayson (Sunderland manager) has signed Jason Steele from Blackburn and is trying to sign Robbin Ruiter which would see 21-year-old Stryjek pushed down the pecking-order. Grayson said, “You need to carry good goalkeepers. If we get another in, with Robbin, that might allow Max to go out on loan.”
