Dale Stephens, who recently signed for Athletic from Bury, has had his transfer fee set by a Football League tribunal which was held at Manchester United's Old Trafford ground. They have ruled that the Latics must pay the Shakers £30,000 in advance, with a further £10,000 in instalments to follow should the 20 year old reach 15, 30, 45 and 60 senior games, which means a possible further £40,000. A lump sum of £25,000 will also be payable if Athletic achieve promotion to the Championship within the next two years, providing Stephens has played in at least half of the games.
A sell-on clause has also been included which means that Bury will be entitled to a 20% cut of any future transfer fee. Alan Hardy told the official website, "We are relatively happy considering the initial demands we received from Bury. I suppose out of the two parties, they will be the more disappointed."
