Latics defender John Thompson is to undergo more surgery this week. The 26 year old Eire international has only made ten appearances in a season cluttered with injury. After trying a comeback against Millwall he limped off with just nine minutes of the game gone. It is hoped that the operation will cure his suspect knee but he will need recouperation time afterwards and it is not known how long he is expected to be out for.
