Team plans for the new season

Thanks for bearing with us over the last week and special thanks go to Tony, a Burney fan would you believe, for his help in keeping you informed with what has been happening at Boundary Park.

Athletic’s new owners are to negotiate Iain Dowie’s new team plans for the coming season which kicks off in two weeks time. Athletic have just 12 professional footballers at Boundary Park, of which three are injured. Chris Moore set about destructing the squad before handing over control of the club but he has now cut all ties and written off a loan to the club of around £4.5 million.

Caretaker owner Sean Jarvis said, “The team is our product and we need
guidance from Iain about the best way to move forward. Financial parameters are extremely tight, but getting players signed up is arguably the top priority at the moment. Chris Moore is no longer associated with the club, so we have
achieved our first objective. There are hundreds of other issues to deal with, such as creditors, bringing in sponsorship, re-opening the shop and so on. But the team is of paramount importance.”

Athletic will be starting the season with a very inexperienced team but at least Athletic’s long suffering fans will have a team to watch. It appears that short term contracts are the only way forward as there is still £220,000 owed to the
PFA and over £500,000 is needed just to get the new season started. Meetings will be held soon with Sean Jarvis and Neil Joy deciding with interested parties as to how the shares should be divided.

Mr. Jarvis said, “This buy-out was never the ideal solution, but it reached a point where we had no other option if the club was going to survive. Absolutely everyone needs to pull together. It’s no good people looking at us and thinking the club will be okay from now on – it will only be okay if the town get behind us and we can find more investment.”
