34-year-old striker Shefki Kuqi has signed for the Latics and his experience should provide the boost to the forward line that has recently been missing. He has signed a contract that will see him remain at Boundary Park for at least the remainder of the 2011/12 season.
Kuqi was a team-mate of manager Paul Dickov in his days at at Blackburn Rovers and last season he was playing in the Premier League for Newcastle United. He has won 62 caps for Finland and spent his early years in Finnish football before being given his break in English football at Stockport County. He also has experience with Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich, Blackburn, Crystal Palace, Swansea City and Newcastle. Kuqi has scored 147 goals in 518 appearances and is known as the 'Flying Finn' because of his trademark bellyflop goal celebrations.
