Stam out for up to eight weeks

Stefan Stam could be out of action for up to eight weeks after damaging his ankle ligaments in the 1-2 win at Cheltenham on Saturday. It's a big blow for the team as Stam has been outstanding in defence and has contributed tremendously to Athletic's lofty position in the league with his sterling displays at the heart of the back line.

Latics boss John Sheridan has tried to bring in a player on loan as cover but has hit a brick wall as he is just left with two recognised centre backs. If he is able to take a player on loan, the club officials have stated that he must be eligible to play in the FA Cup.
