Ex-Latics keeper Terry Smith has signed for Southport after being released by John Sheridan at the end of last season. The 19 year old was on loan at Haig Avenue towards the end of the season but was unable to save the seasiders from being relegated from the Conference. Southport will continue to be a full time professional club and hope to return to the top flight of non league football at the first attempt.Smith made just two senior appearances for Athletic last season as sub in the Rotherham Carling Cup game and the Carlisle league game but did enough on loan to persuade Southport to sign him on a permanent basis.
