Adam Collin (pictured) and Calvin Zola Makongo have both signed for the Latics on a month's loan from Newcastle United. Collin at 6'4" is a giant of a goalkeeper and Makongo measures in at 6'3".Iain Dowie commented, “They are both big lads and we do need a bit of physical stature. It's a tough league and you can see the teams that are doing well are big sides. Big players are key at set pieces both as an attacking force and when defending. Having said that we like to get the ball down and play football. I saw Makongo in the reserves against Everton and he scored two of the best goals I have ever seen. He played well and has good feet and decent pace.”
Sir Bobby Robson rates Collin very highly, and with his height how can you rate him any differently! Dowie has brought Collin in as cover for Les Pogliacomi and he was in the squad on Saturday when Athletic got their first league victory of the season over Rushden and Diamonds.
