Robbie Simpson relived his spectacular goal which gave the Latics the lead at Liverpool and described it as the best moment of his life. He said,
“In terms of the occasion and scoring in front of the Kop it was probably the best feeling I have ever had. It is definitely one of the best goals I have scored and one I will remember for a long time. After it went in, I completely lost it and didn't know what to do. I ran the whole length of the field, and a lot further than I intended to do, to celebrate in front of the Latics fans. I was absolutely blowing by the time I had run back again for the kick off.”
“They (the team) beat Southend to give me the chance to play Liverpool so I owe them a lot. I also owe Paul Dickov a lot for allowing me to keep training with Latics during my three weeks off to keep fit and the work fitness coach Paul Butler did to keep me sharp. I am also glad to have given the fans something to cheer. It was brilliant to see over 6,000 fans and they got behind us. I hope we made them proud tonight. The Liverpool game is right up there and the goal was the best moment ever in my life. As soon as I hit it, I knew it was in. And to beat a keeper of the calibre of Pepe Reina made it even more special.”
