The Latics shock cup win at Nottingham Forest and their subsequent progression to the fourth round of the FA Cup will bring the club some much needed financial stability. The third round success ensured that the club picked up £67,000 in prize money as well as a 40% share of the gate receipts. If the Latics can continue in the same vein and topple Liverpool in the fourth round they will pick up another £90,000 in prize money alone.
Simon Corney said, “First and foremost the win at Nottingham Forest was great for the fans. We have not seen a lot of great football recently and the fans were magnificent. People might not believe me, but it gave me more pleasure to hear the fans cheering, singing and enjoying themselves than winning the match. Of course winning the game was also important and helps the club tremendously from a financial point of view. It was a good day out, we are still in the cup and our season is still alive.”
