Darren Sheridan (pictured) has undergone surgery and will be out of action for up to two months after his injury was confirmed as a hairline fracture of the left leg. Athletic will be struggling in midfield as brother John Sheridan is serving a three match ban, Paul Murray has a pulled hamstring, Matty Appleby is still recovering from injury and David Eyres and Chris Killen are also sidelined.
Iain Dowie commented, “Injuries are part of football, but the news about Darren is disturbing and it needs to be rectified. The takeover can’t come soon enough because things are becoming very stretched. New players will have to come in soon if we are going to challenge at the top.”
