Sheridan still upbeat

A still upbeat manager, John Sheridan, assessed how the game at Shrewsbury went when he told the official website, "The first half was very good, and if we'd have kept the same side out for the second half, the game would have been over and done with. We looked nice and positive in and around the penalty area. However, these games are all about finding out about players and giving people a chance. I'm not too disappointed. It'd have been nice to win the game but I was very happy with the first-half performance. The first few games are all about getting people fit. Don't forget, they've been away for six weeks."

"I thought Neil Wood did very well again tonight. He's not done anything wrong so far. I'm going to make a decision about him over the weekend or after the Preston game. As for young Chris Neal, he is still young and can learn, and apart from one silly mistake, he was solid again tonight."

"Moussa Dabo definitely got something to offer. I've just got an inkling that he's going to be a very good player. His addition is definitely going to make the others fight for their places. Moussa's got real quality on the ball. He reminds me a lot of Olivier Dacourt. He gives us another option in midfield, and I think we're looking pretty strong there now. Moussa's picked up a slight injury, and will probably be out for about ten days, then we can concentrate on getting him match fit. On a brighter note, I expect Les (Pogliacomi) and Will (Haining) to be in contention on Tuesday."

"A defender and a striker are definitely two positions where we need to get someone in, and I've got a couple of names in the frame. I want winners in my team. I want people who are willing to learn, improve their game and listen. I want to try and make them better players, who can play at a higher level. I used 3-5-2 with the reserves last year, and really like it. However, I think I've got the personnel to play a number of different formations. Now is when we really get going. I'll be taking a strong, if not my strongest, side to Leyland for the Preston game."
