Sheridan shoulders blame

John Sheridan has shouldered the blame for the Latics defeat at Bournemouth. He admits that he got the tactics wrong as he tried an unfamiliar 4-5-1 system in the first half of the game. Realising that it was not working Shez reverted to a more familiar 4-4-2 formation.

In a refreshing statement from an Athletic manager Sheridan said, “I blame myself because the lads didn't seem to know what they were doing. I thought the system would stop Bournemouth playing, but the distances between players were too big and it obviously didn't go to plan. We haven't done badly with a 4-4-2 in the past, and that showed in the second half when our performance was much better.”

With a manager who is not afraid to hold up his hands when he makes a mistake, Athletic deserve that their luck should turn. He could have easily blamed the players for the 2-0 half time score like managers have done in the past. Fair play to Shez though, his honesty is promising for the future.
