The result was manager John Sheridan's biggest ever defeat as manager and he was rightly seething at the result and he issued an apology to the 500 plus travelling supporters who made the long trip up there.
Shez said, "I was not happy one bit with that performance. There was no will to win and I just cannot take anything from the game. We deserved nothing and I'm not going to stand for it. The players didn't look like they knew each other, but they did at Burnley on Tuesday and I can't make excuses for them. I'd like to apologise to the fans that travelled."
"I will have a good look at myself. This has not really happened during the time I've been manager. Last season we were playing well and I knew we'd come good, but on that performance I'm going to have to look at myself and make some harsh decisions. Teams don't have to work hard against us to score. People need to stand up for themselves on the pitch and I want winners in my team. I'm very confident in what I'm doing. We've not lost many games in the manner of today and I do not like one of my teams playing like that. It will not happen again, I can promise you that."
"Once again I'd like to apologise to the fans. I don't like to have Oldham fans travelling all the way to Hartlepool only for us to give a performance like that. We had some good days last season. I enjoyed them and I want more of them. I don't want days like this. I can do all the talking I want but I'm not out there playing. We were very sloppy and I won't accept it. If I need to make changes, I will make changes. I know Kelvin Lomax and the other young lads from the youth team, and if I have to throw them in I will. It doesn't matter who we've just brought in or who we paid money for. If they're sloppy in their play, I will leave them out of the team. If there were 10 games to go the team would be fighting relegation on that performance."
