Former Latics’ boss and striker Graeme Sharp has given his backing to Frankie Bunn and assistant Andy Rhodes. He reckons that the duo can bring the club back into the limelight.
Sharp said, “I spoke to Frankie and Andy in pre-season at the game against Curzon Ashton. I managed to grab a few words with them both and gave them some advice. I told them about my time in charge and how difficult it was and I think they’ve got an even tougher job on their hands. It’ll take them time to get certain things right but they’re doing a good job so far and hopefully that will continue.”
“They're both fantastic guys, Frankie was still there when I joined but he had his injury problems. He was a lovely guy and so is Andy. Hopefully everybody gets behind them both even when the results are up and down because they’re two lads that deserve success. The game at Grimsby was a good result, so hopefully that's a little kick start they needed to get on a run again and go further up the table and challenge for promotion. It would be brilliant for the club, everybody knows it’s a friendly club and the locals come out in their masses to support this side.”
“Hopefully with Frankie and Andy being there the fans can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it's important that everyone tries to move the club in the right direction. Obviously winning football matches helps attract more people through the doors and it'll be great to get the club back to the glory days under Joe Royle if possible. You never know in football it could be the start of something special, it’s a football town and it's showed in the past that when the team is successful the town rally together.”
