Craig Rocastle has moved to Port Vale after being released from his contract which would have seen him stay at Boundary Park for another season. Rocastle (25 and 6ft. 2ins.) signed a two-year contract last summer after leaving Sheffield Wednesday but did not fully establish himself in the team as the midfield role was a competitive position last season. He made nineteen starts, with twenty appearances as substitute, mainly when other players were either suspended or missing with injury. Rocastle scored three goals.
Martin Foyle, the Vale manager, stepped in with an offer of a two year contract at Vale Park. Foyle said, "Craig is a player I have watched for a while now. He is a good age and has a good attitude. Although he had a year left at Oldham, they have said they won't stand in his way. He played in the play-offs for Oldham and I thought he was their man-of-the-match in the second leg of the semi-final against Blackpool."
