Former Latics favourite and Barnsley manager Andy Ritchie has been the subject of an official approach by managerless Sheffield Wednesday but the Barnsley board have rejected Wednesday's approach. Wednesday sacked Paul Sturrock last week after the team dropped too near to the bottom of the Championship table. An official statement form the Tykes stated, “This request was promptly and flatly refused both verbally and, 30 minutes later, by email.” Barnsley are currently one spot below Wednesday in the league.
