A delighted Ronnie Moore said, “I would have been happier if we’d played and picked up another win, but it was a pleasing day at the office. Things went well for us, and with our game in hand you can’t totally rule out automatic promotion. The play-offs are more likely, so we’re focusing on the teams immediately above us and hoping somebody will have a wobble. We’ve got a big test at home to Colchester next weekend, but three points would put us right in the mix.”
Promotion hopes given a boost
Athletics promotion hopes were given a boost over the weekend even though they didn’t kick a ball. As Athletic sat twiddling their thumbs after having their game at Rotherham postponed, Barnsley and Swansea drew at Oakwell and Chesterfield got thumped 3-0 at home to Yeovil. Colchester were beaten by leaders Southend and Huddersfield were held to a draw. The results were kind enough to ensure that promotion is still possible for the Boundary Park boys.
