Preview: Oldham Athletic Vs. Wycombe Wanderers

Last updated : 26 March 2004 By Maca

Wycombe Wanderers are bottom of the league and look almost certain to go down, their nearest rivals Notts County are nine points ahead and 12 points from safety. They haven’t won away from home this season at all drawing ten of the nineteen matches so far. Wycombe have been somewhat of a bogey side for Oldham in recent years however and Tony Adams side will be playing for pride and with little nerves. Despite being so far behind they have become hard to beat since Tony Adams took charge, their season is all but over and Oldham’s is far from finishing yet so Oldham will need to be professional and grind this result out.

Previous Match

The last time the two teams met the Latics went on to record one of their best ever scorelines away from Boundary Park. It took just 14 seconds for Oldham to go infront, the Wycombe defence seemed to just part away giving Paul Murray a strike from distance. On 16 minutes Danny Hall scored his first senior goal from a corner that Wycombe failed to clear on the line. 21 minutes gone Scott Vernon hit the post and the ball fell to Calvin Zola who simply tapped home. Wycombe pulled one back just after half time following a mix-up between Hall and Pogliacomi, former Latics trialist Andy Bell poked the chance in. Chris Killen restored the three goal advantage from the penalty spot, scoring on his comeback from injury. A minute later Andy Bell made it 4-2 scoring a superb solo goal. Paul Murray put the icing on the cake on 85 minutes when he wrongfooted the keeper to side foot the simplest of goals to end the game 5-2 to Oldham.
