A delighted John Sheridan told the official site, "We could have scored six goals, no danger. I was a bit unhappy with only being one goal in front at half-time. With the chances we created I could have put myself and Tommy Wright on in the second half and converted them. But a win's a win at the end of the day. Three-nil is a good scoreline in any circumstances, plus we got a clean sheet. Gary McDonald started at right-back before going into midfield when Rocky (Craig Rocastle) got injured. He gets into the danger areas, and I hope he'll score more goals this season. He's good at arriving in the box late to create chances, so I certainly expect him to score a few this season."
"I've said to the lads that results today have proved that you can't predict who will beat who. All we can do is concentrate on ourselves and believe in ourselves. I still haven't seen a team better than us this season. Nottingham Forest are the only side showing consistency, and we went there and beat them. If we can get on another run we might find ourselves up there and even if the play-offs. We're not getting carried away though, it's a long season with many twists and turns."
His counterpart, Leroy Rosenior, was very disappointed with his players. He said, "Everything went against us from the beginning. We lost Calum Willock early on and we needed his pace up front away from home. However, that's no excuse for the lack of passion we showed. It was men against boys and I take full responsibility for that. I threw the kids in and they found it very difficult. We didn't compete, we didn't get close to Oldham and it was difficult to watch for myself and the fans."
