Dino Maamria had praise for his players after the 0-0 draw at Port Vale on Saturday. He said, “I am gutted we didn't get the three points because we outplayed them in every department. I thought we were outstanding. I thought we footballed them to death. We played around them all afternoon. First half, second half. Obviously, we know they are going to throw the big boys up front, and long balls with Bennett, and Pope coming on. We contained that. I knew we they were going to do that, then I have emphasised since Tuesday's game that we have to get the ball down and play around them and we did that fantastically. Probably the disappointing thing is we didn't have that conviction and belief in the final third to capitalise on the chances that we created. But as a defensive unit I thought we were brilliant.”
“As a team we worked really hard, as a defensive unit, and we were very good with the ball as well. Where we are disappointed is in that final third in crucial moments of the game. I think we had all the chances. I don't think Zeus (de la Paz) in the second half made a save. I think he made a couple of good saves in the first half but in the second half I don't think he made a save. They put a few balls in the box, which Stotty (Jamie Stott) and David Wheater defended with ease. Like I said, we played around them and I think they got away with it today. If we'd just had that little bit of belief and conviction in the attacking third we'd have won the game with ease.”
