Lewis Caunce (1938-39) was the first player to do this when he only missed one of the 42 league games games to set the record. George Burnett (1952-53) equalled the record in the season that the Latics won the Third Division North championship when he appeared in 42 of the 46 games.
The most recent player to achieve this feat was Andy Goram (1986-87). This was the season that the league first introduced the play-off system. The Latics had finished third in the league that season, a whopping seven points and +7 goals better off than Leeds United. They would have achieved automatic promotion under the old system but in one of the biggest travesties in their history they lost the play-off games over the two legs. Goram only missed one game giving him 41 appearances or 43 with the play-offs included. Next up is the midweek match at Luton.
What would Poggi give for a 0-1 success for the Latics at Luton in midweek?
