Ellis Plummer crumbled under pressure in Saturday’s Colchester game according to manager Lee Johnson. Plummer is on loan until the end of the month from Manchester City but the left-back scored an own goal and also had a hand in Colchester's second goal in last Saturdays 2-0 home defeat. Plummer was not the only player who was off form in a very disappointing display.
Johnson said, “What can you say? He is a young lad who has come in from City. I expect him to be able to cope and he didn’t. I thought he was excellent the previous week at Brentford. He came back in and he went under. It was disappointing to see that. But he is young and he will have to learn very quickly, as whatever division you are in there are livelihoods on the line.”
Johnson had harsh words for the whole of his team after a poor performance and felt that his side didn’t do themselves justice. Colchester had been hammered 4-0 at home by Notts County the previous week and he admitted, “It was a very, very poor performance and I feel let down. There was a lack of desire, of energy and of will to win. We looked young and immature – everything that you would say about a side that was weak mentally and physically came out.”
