Pete Wild has given his account of the Latics' performance after the 2-0 win over promotion hopefuls, Tranmere Rovers.
He commented, “I'm very pleased, I thought what you saw was a workman like Oldham Athletic performance. The lads really worked hard for each other, worked hard for the club and you can't ask for more than that. Let's be honest they're a really good side, so we had to do a lot of defending in the second half, but we did it excellently with a lot thrown at us. It proves to us again that we're a tough team to play against when we're on our game. I always want to nullify their threat first, we're lucky we got the early goal because I didn't expect it. We stopped their threat, stopped them playing and then went on to score at important times.”
“I was confident all day, I thought we had a really good chance today and I know what our squad is capable of. They had to bring their 'A game' and they did which was the message that we wanted to go and prove a point. It proved we are good enough at this level to go and beat the better teams in this league. The togetherness within the squad seems to be there and everyone is playing for each other once again. Callum [Lang] is great, he seems to wriggle and jiggle, get himself in positions up against their centre halves and he certainly punches his weight. He's always a threat every time we go forward and when we went in behind their centre halves found it difficult. It's pleasing to keep two clean sheets and score two goals each time, but the hard work continues now. I go in the dressing room and write each team on the board, so we've ticked off Tranmere now and we've wrote Colchester United on there. All thoughts now turn to Saturday because it could be a special week for us.”
