Owen move to Stockport could be permanent

Defender Gareth Owen who was on loan at Stockport for the majority of last season is likely to get a permanent move to Edgeley Park after his very successful season with the Hatters. If County agree to Athletic's terms and conditions of the transfer, the Latics will receive a fee for the centre-back Owen, although it will include likely a sell-on clause. County wanted to pay in two instalments but Athletic are insisting on all of the money being up front. Owen made a big impact at County and walked away with their Player of the Year award. Stockport just missed out on the play-offs by goal difference.
Assistant manager at Stockport, Peter Ward said, "Gareth's agent has contacted our managing director, Mark Maguire, and stated that he is happy with everything, so now it's just a question of tying things up with Oldham before finally getting the deal agreed. It should be confirmed by the end of the week. There will be a small fee to pay, but after the impact Gareth made last season then we don't mind parting with that."
