Nobody is guaranteed a starting place

John Sheridan has warned his new signings that nobody is guaranteed a starting place for the coming season. Shez was disappointed with the defeat at Rochdale and sent out a stern warning that places in the team must be earned. Shez said, "One of the pleasing things about pre-season so far is the way the kids have done so well. If one or two of them impress me, I will play them. It's as simple as that and everything is up for grabs. Just because I have signed someone, it doesn't mean they can be sure of a starting place, far from it. I don't know my team yet, but the idea of throwing in one of the young lads doesn't bother me at all."

Trialist Alan Wright who made his debut at Rochdale will travel with the team for the next encounter at Clyde and Sheridan said of his performance, "Alan did okay in patches, so we'll take another look at him and see how he does up at Clyde. It was difficult because he didn't know the other lads or how we wanted him to play, but he's an experienced pro and a quality player. Sean Gregan (pictured) is our best leader on the pitch so it was a fairly straightforward decision to make him captain. We don't have many talkers, but hopefully he will bring out the best in the people around him."
