The following statement was issued to Latics fans before the home game against QPR on Saturday:
Dear Fans
Today’s game is a little unusual, as I am sure by now you have heard, Iain Dowie has left us to take up the position of Manager at Crystal Palace. It has come as a great shock to us; in fact we did not even have time to re-write our notes for the match programme. It was only Thursday afternoon that we received a call from Palace seeking permission to talk to Iain and as you can see, things happened very quickly after that.
In charge for today’s game will be the two most senior players on our squad, David Eyres and John Sheridan. Please show patience with them and support the club in the same manner as you have all season.
We will of course be appointing a long-term manager as soon as the right candidate is available but without wishing to use too many footballing clichés so early, in our role as new owners, we will take our time to make sure we get the right person.
Although we will be sad to see Iain go, there is no point in dwelling in the past and you can rest assured we have not made this large investment into Boundary Park and Oldham Athletic FC to let these things fall apart. We will survive this and grow stronger.
Many thanks for your great support.
Simon, Simon & Danny
