Move for keeper hits snag

Athletic's loan move for Preston goalkeeper Chris Neal has temporarily come unstuck. A goalkeeping crisis at Deepdale meant that Neal had to go back to Preston and Latics manager John Sheridan has had to postpone the loan. Ironically, Nean appeared for the whole game AGAINST Athletic when they beat Preston in the Lancashire Senior Cup Final at Leyland. At least, it gave Sheridan an first hand opportunity to assess the keeper for a full 90 minutes.

Sheridan said, "Paul Simpson contacted me and said his second-choice keeper had picked up an injury, and that he wanted Chris around just to be on the cautious side. The injury isn't serious, though, so I'm still hopeful of getting something completed as soon as possible."
