Moore rubbishes Haining rumours

Latics manager Ronnie Moore has rubbished reports that have been linking Will Haining (pictured) with Wigan. Rumours were around that Wigan and West Brom were both considering putting in a bid for the young defender before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Moore was quick to dismiss the stories and told Sky Sports, "Absolute rubbish. I haven't taken one call with regards to Will. I'm big mates with Paul (Jewell) and I'm sure if there was anything in it he'd speak to me. He won't be going anywhere.”

If Will is not leaving, Moore still has irons in the fire to bring in at least one new face before the deadline. He still wants to strengthen the middle of the park and went on, “I'm looking to bring in a big, strong midfield player. We're still waiting on Blackburn to get back to us about Gary Harkins, but they are non-commital. I've got a lad, Amadou Sanokho, coming in on trial tomorrow to have a look at. He's a big 6ft 3, French lad, who'd been at Burnley.”

A move to bring in Bolton Wanderers midfielder Joey O’Brien has failed as Wanderers say he needs experience at Championship level but John Breckin, Athletic’s assistant manager said, “If that one doesn’t come off, we’ve got lots of other irons in the fire and lots of people in mind. Most of them are midfielders because a big player in the middle is our top priority.”
