A disgusted Carss left the club with a parting shot at Mr. Moore though, as he said, “The players are being treated like cattle. It shows how far we’ve sunk when a busload of staff have to make a protest – there’s a lot of resentment around the club and I’m no exception. Mr Moore is doing nothing at all to help, and the sooner he gets out of there the better."
"He was given tremendous support at first, but I’ve come to realise that you can’t believe a single word he says. You can’t rely on him for anything. As soon as he lost interest in the club and the people – which he obviously has – there was trouble. He arrived with big ideas of Premiership football and redeveloping the ground, but the whole thing hit a brick wall. It has become more like a cattle market than a football club. He is getting rid of players when they would love to stay – he is forcing them out unwillingly. I managed to hang on for nine weeks after the season ended, and I wanted to stay despite Colchester and Huddersfield offering much, much better terms. In the end, I’ve been wrenched away."
"It was unavoidable and you have to feel for the lads left behind and also for Iain Dowie, who is battling away when most managers would have left. The fans have been fantastic and I want to thank them. I wanted to spend years with Oldham because I love the place and I’ve made it my home. That might have happened if someone else had been in charge, but this bloke has made a complete mess of it. There was always a danger of the wheels coming off if he decided to pull out and, sadly, that’s exactly what’s happening.”
