Manager's comments after Bristol defeat

John Sheridan was not too downhearted after his side dropped all three points to newly promoted Bristol Rovers on Saturday even though the fans were not very pleased with the disappointing result. The fans were rightly venting their displeasure with the lack of ability to create enough goal chances to win what should have been an easy game.

However, the manager told Latics World, "We got balls into the box, in fact we had about 35 crosses, which is a lot for one game. There were a few bad ones, but some good ones too. Sometimes you have to get hurt to score or set someone else up, and I'm not just talking about the strikers but other people too. We need to go in with a bit of venom, get in those good positions and want to score."

"If we want to get anywhere near the play-offs these are games we have to win. I'm as disappointed as anyone, but then saying that I thought we played well today. I thought it was the best we've played. The tempo was miles better, there was a lot of energy in our play and with a bit of luck we could have won the game. They've hit the post and then scored what was a sloppy goal from our point of view. Our passing was good and there was a lot of brightness to our game, but people need to listen and go where we tell them to go, and that didn't happen. Sometimes you've got to say it wasn't your day, and I think today was one of those days."

"I would have liked more points from the games that we've had, to be honest I expected to have more, but I hate losing and I've got to stay positive. If we play like we did today we'll win more than we lose, and it's important we keep that belief and get back to winning ways as we've got some tough games coming up. You just can't predict a result in this division. Bristol came organised and got a goal, but I thought we did enough to win."
