Low joins exodus
A dejected Iain Dowie commented, “It’s a numbers game and we’ll hopefully use the money to get David Eyres, John Eyre, Ernie Cooksey and, if he comes back from Rotherham, Julien Baudet. But Josh was absolutely central to our plans and the last thing I wanted to do was lose him. Everyone seemed to think the takeover would make things rosy in the garden – that was never going to be. I asked the board whether I could sign those four other players and they said it could only happen at the moment if we allowed Josh to go.”
“It's a big, big loss, I was involved in some discussions with the directors yesterday, before that situation, I thought that once Clint was off the wage bill, we would be able to sign the players that were out of contract, John Eyre, possibly Julien, David Eyres, Ernie Cooksey and the 4 young kids. Following discussions yesterday, that wasn't the case, it was either keep Josh or sell Josh in order to be able to bring the others in. He was out of contract at the end of the year, I had made some tentative discussions about another contract offer that hadn't received a favourable response even though they were at early stages but Josh has decided he wanted to go and talk to them and may be in the process of signing for them. We really are still in the financial mire, we've lost a key assett, this time it's sensible money because he only had a year left and I was involved but nonetheless it's still a bitter blow to us.”
Sean Jarvis added, “No-one wanted Josh Low to go, we discussed the situation with Iain who obviously wanted Josh to stay. Iain had held tentative early discussions with Josh over a new contract and he felt that Josh had not appeared overly enthusiastic about signing a new deal. Josh was given permission to speak to Northampton and it appears he has agreed to join them."
