The Latics are lining-up an ambitious swoop for Sheffield Wednesday striker Caolan Lavery, according to Football League World. They report:
Lavery is out of of favour at Hillsborough following the arrival of Portuguese coach Carlos Carvalhal and Oldham are keen to take the talisman on loan. The Latics parted with their manager Darren Kelly a fortnight ago and incoming interim boss David Dunn is keen to shake-up his squad, as he looks to revive the club’s fortunes. Lavery is thought to have admirers in the Championship too, but Oldham hope that the lure of guaranteed first-team football will be enough to see them secure the player’s services.
The Canada-born striker spent a short time out on loan with Chesterfield last season and on that basis knows all about what it takes to succeed in League One, as he helped himself to three goals in eight games. The 22-year-old has played for the Northern Ireland Under-21’s seven times and would be an astute signing for the Latics in their current plight.
