Oldham Athletic will be playing their football at Boundary Park next season. Amid various rumours, the club have now confirmed that their spiritual home will be retained, at least for the 2011-12 season. Bury’s Gigg Lane ground had been considered as a ground sharing favourite but the decision had to be made soon and the announcement will please many of the Oldham fans.
Alan Hardy told the Oldham Chronicle, “We looked at other options but at this stage, it would have been difficult to be accommodated at other sites.” In the meantime the club will continue to negotiate (or fight) with the local Council to provide a permanent home in the borough after the planned move to Failsworth fell through. Athletic chairman Simon Corney has maintained that he will consider taking the club out of Oldham is a suitable resolution cannot be found. Mr. Hardy also confessed that he wasn’t aware of any plans to build a brand new stand on the Broadway side of the ground.
