Latics to receive windfall

Athletic are set to receive an unexpected windfall after former boss Iain Dowie signed former Latics player Fitz Hall for Crystal Palace from Southampton. Hall was ‘stolen’ from the Latics during the bleak summer of last year during the ‘Sale of The Century’ instigated by a former Latics regime. Part of the transfer agreement was that the club would receive 15% of any future ‘sell-on’ transfer fee over and above the figure which the club had already received. Athletic have already received a paltry transfer fee of £250,000 and an additional payment of £20,000 because ‘One Size’ played 10 first team games for Southampton. Oldham are to receive an additional £184,500 which will be a big boost to the club.
One disadvantage is that the agreement between Crystal Palace and Southampton means that the transfer fee will be paid over a period of time rather than a lump sum. This means that Athletic will also have to wait for their payment in installments. As the club are now a new company, any payment will be conceived as a bonus.
